UPDATED NEWS:
Latest news reveals that Gionee M5 is likely to be powered by a super huge 6,020mAh battery, which can allow M5 to last up to four days with just a single charge. However, the company hasn’t mentioned anything like a dual battery for M5 as we heard before.

So, whether they are hiding something to surprise us, or it’s really not gonna happen? Let’s wait until June 10, 2015 when Gionee M5 together with Gionee Elife E8 are launched in Beijing, China. Just a few days to go!

If you are looking for a smartphone whose battery can last longer than just a day, you may find Gionee M5 interesting. A 3,000mAh battery seems to be acceptable, but what if a phone has TWO 3,000mAh batteries? It’s more than just acceptable; it’s remarkable! And sounds like Gionee is going to do that with their new handset.
Recently, the new Gionee M5 smartphone has been spotted passing through TENAA (a telecommunications equipment certification center in China), featuring TWO 3,000mAh batteries at the same time. It shows that Gionee has decided to take a slightly different way to optimize the phone’s battery life while most other manufacturers are trying to make just one big batt for their phone.
Gionee M5 Specs:
According to the information on TENAA listing, M5 will boast a 1.3Ghz Quad-Core processor, perhaps a 64-bit MediaTek chipset, 2GB RAM and 16GB of storage. As for the camera, it gets an 8MP rear shooter and a 5MP front one. Despite including 2 batteries, it does not mean Gionee M5 will increase its thickness. Interestingly, the device is able to keep itself thin at 8.6mm with a 5.5-inch HD screen, using an AMOLED panel to help the display quality still be very good. The whole phone will run on Android 5.0 Lollipop as standard. Anyhow, there is one thing that could be a minus for M5. It weighs 213 grams, which is obviously heavier than many other 5.5-inch smartphones on the market.
As what we mentioned above, Gionee M5’s dual battery reaching the capacity of 6,000mAh is going to be its key selling point. With such feature, Gionee M5 can last for a full 4-day use with one single charge. Some sources even claim that you can swap the batteries. For example, you can take a spare batt with you to replace one of the phone’s batteries without shutting down the device.
To recap, people expect that being a mid-range smartphone, Gionee M5 with the huge 6,000mAh capacity of battery can become strongly competitive with other flagships. So far there has not been any words on official Gionee M5 price but the Gionee M5 launch date is set. It is coming together with the flagship Gionee Elife E8 in the coming weeks.
