Huawei sues Samsung – its main rival in the smartphone market- in 2 countries. The China company claims that the giant from Korea has infringed its patents for so many years.
Huawei sues Samsung: 12 patents were violated
Huawei is now the biggest smartphone company in China. It also has become the third-largest smartphone vendor in the world. Samsung is an old big giant in the smartphone market. It has been a worldwide sale king in this market for several years. Recently, these two big companies have been involved in a lawsuit about the patent infringement. Huawei has been spending a huge money in patent files (50,377 patents on Dec. 31, 2015). And now, Samsung violated those patents.
According to Huawei, the giant from South Korea infringed its 12 patents. 8 of them related to cellular networks. The remains are smartphones. Samsung is said to use Huawei’s 4G cellular communications technology, operating systems, and user interface software. And it already used this 4G LTE technology 5 years ago. This was the time when the Korea company released its flagship the Samsung Galaxy S II.
Huawei sues Samsung in both the US and China. It asks for compensation for the patent violation. The Korea company hasn’t given any confirmation or denial yet. Samsung’s representative just said that the company will ” review the complaint and take appropriate action to defend Samsung’s business interests”. Hopefully, this suit won’t last for so many years like the last one. Because it definitely will cost both of them a lot.
Samsung’s patent violation: not the first time
This is not the first time that Samsung involved in a patent lawsuit like this. In 2011, the big Apple sued against the Korea giant. Apple said Samsung copied the design, technology and user interface of its iPad and iPhone. And Samsung counter-sued. This lawsuit lasted for 4 years. Within 4 years, both companies lost a lot of money.
