Meet Badshah – the Indian rapper who broke Taylor Swift and BTS YouTube record!!!
In case you haven’t been updated by with the news, Taylor Swift has recently broken the YouTube record for the Most Watched Video in 24 Hours by a solo and female artist on YouTube with 65.2 million views. Notably, she archived his milestones with the release of her ‘ME!’, which featured Brendon Urie of Panic! At The Disco. On the other hand, Korean boyband BTS also held the record of the Most Watched Videos with their latest comeback.
Previously, BTS’ ‘Boy With Luv’ music video (featuring Halsey) reached 74.6 million views in its first 24 hours, making it the Most Watched Video in 24 Hours by a group. This July, these two records were shattered by an ‘unknown’ Indian rapper name Badshah. So far, his new music video – ‘Paagal’ – pulled through the record with over 75 million views in 24 hours. So how did he archive such a record? The artist himself has taken to Instagram to speak out his explanation.
Firstly, he denied using illegal ways to buy views on his videos. However, he admitted to buying promotion and advertising for the video. Plus, based on what we discovered, the Indian rapper might have made use of a very clever trick: Google AdWords! To simply explain, Google AdWords is the brand’s advertising system. In which advertisers bid on certain keywords for their clickable ads to appear in Google’s search results. So you pay for the keywords that pop out at consumers around the globe. Then it leads them to click on a link that takes them to the music video. Speaking on the milestone, Sony Music’s President of India and the Middle East – Shridhar Subramaniam shared his thought: “This is an unprecedented feat and we’re very proud. This will go down [in] history as Badshah becomes the first Indian artist to reach 75 million views in 24 hours.”
Will this be a new way for music creators to advertise her product?
Up to now, YouTube has yet to give their official statement on the situation. However, Badshah now undoubtedly holds the record for the Most Watched Video within 24 hours. On another note, it’ll be interesting to see how music labels worldwide can learn from this case and apply it to their future project.
