Samsung might use LG batteries for the Galaxy S8
According to Korea Herald – a local press, Samsung is looking for various suppliers in terms of smartphones battery. And LG might be one of the company’s consideration. They want to guarantee their next flagship the Galaxy S8 will be free from faulty batteries.
Samsung: cooperating with their competitor
Several months ago, Samsung was involved in the explosions of Galaxy Note 7. The problem was put down to a battery issue. The company has worked with two suppliers: Samsung SDI and ATL. Before recalling all the smartphones, they found out that SDI battery was faulty, and the other is safe. However, not long after that, the device use ATL battery also caught fire.
After recalling the phone and switching to its other component manufacturing partner (Amperex Technology Limited), the devices were on the market again. However, the overheating problem persisted, and the company had to cancel the whole Note 7 production permanently. For that reason, they are now really considerate in choosing among suppliers for their next flagship the Galaxy S8. LG Chem is considered as one of the companies that are potential target to provide battery for S8.
Samsung and LG – 2 manufacturers from the same country, have fiercely competed with each other in terms of smartphones and electronic products. Whether they will cooperate with their rival to guarantee the next device’s quality? If LG becomes the battery supplier for Samsung Galaxy S8, this could be a huge business for the company.
Samsung: will the partnership be set?
According to recent reports, Korea Herald was told that the deal is yet to be finalized by the two rivals, so it’s not a sure thing yet. But if the deal doesn’t go through, we wouldn’t be surprised to see the manufacturer looking for other battery suppliers in the near future, rather than having their old mistake repeated. However, before receiving any confirmation from the two grand brands, we shouldn’t jump to any conclusion. Just stay tuned and follow our page for updated information.
