Xiaomi’s $80 smartphone to launch on April 8th
More than a week ago, a China Mobile staff leaked photo supposed to be Xiaomi’s next budget-friendly smartphone. The phone is powered by a Leadcore CPU. Leadcore isn’t as famous as MediaTek or Qualcomm but still is a tough competitor in the race. It is understandable that Xiaomi uses Leadcore CPU for 51% shares of Leadcore Technology are hold by Xiaomi. The device will cost about $80 (or RM 296). According to a report out of China yesterday, the phone would be launched on April 8th.
Some rumored specs of the phone includes:
- 4.7-inch 720p Display
- 1.6Ghz Lead Core (LCI LC1860C) CPU 28nm Quad Core Cortex – A7
- Mali T628 GPU to handle the graphics.
- 1GB RAM and 8GB ROM, microSD slot is included
- 4G LTE supported.
- 13-megapixel Rear Camera and 2-megapixel front camera
- Android 4.4.4 ( Kitkat ) pre-installed
The device has something in common with the current Redmi 2 except for the chipset being replaced by Leadcore. With the price of about $80 (RM 296), there no doubt that it will help Xiaomi reach the goal of selling 80 million to 100million units this year.
So far, the official name of this phone still remains a mystery but this phone has what it takes to be a bang in low-priced smartphone market.
Let’s wait until April 8th to see exactly what Xiaomi does want to show us.
